    Thanks for this tutorial! It’s definitely the quickest and easiest guide I’ve found (and great for those without sewing machines). My only concern is that, depending on the weight of the denim, this method leaves a lot of bulky fabric just above the new hem. Do you ever cut off the excess material rather than anchoring it at the seams and ironing it down? If so, what’s the best approach? Thanks again!

    • @SlewLiving
      @SlewLiving 2 дні тому

      Thank you for leaving a lovely comment! Yes, the fabric can get quite bulky toward the hem. I would avoid cutting it because denim frays very quickly leaving lots of loose long threads, so unless you have access to a serger or a zig zag stitch to clean up after cutting, I would avoid it. If you had access to a serger or a zig zag stitch you could easily trim off the excess fabric and serge so that the fraying doesn't occur. Hope that helps!

    First, yours is the best projector video I've seen, and I've gone through a lot of them. So, thank you for that. What I don't think you or any have is a long view. that is, one picture or frame that showing the whole concept. A shot with the (a) projector (b) projecting light and showing (c) material with the (d) pattern image projected onto the flat material. In a movie, it's where the set up scene begins the movie. Outside of that setup scene I think your tutorial is the clearest, great speaking voice, charm and you go over many complex, important details charmingly and clearly. Thank you.

    Would you redo the understitching or top stitching?

    • @SlewLiving
      @SlewLiving 4 дні тому

      If the lack of topstitching was obvious I would redo it, and if it needed reinforcing I would redo the understitching. But in most cases it's not completely essential and in some cases can make the alteration more obvious, so really it's up to the dress sometimes!

    I am still a little confused about sewing the sleeves back

    • @SlewLiving
      @SlewLiving 13 днів тому

      It is a bit confusing! I usually have my top inside out, then place the sleeve inside the armhole so the right sides of the fabric of both the top and sleeve are together. Then line up the underarm seam of both the top and sleeve and sew all around the armhole. Hope that helps!

    Does the binding need to be cut on the bias?

    • @SlewLiving
      @SlewLiving 18 днів тому

      Not if you are using a stretch fabric (which for this style you should be)! But it does need to be cut in the direction of the stretch (ie. your strips of binding should be stretchy). Hope that helps!

    So my skirt also needs ~4in taken in, but I only have (2) back darts, with a zipper on one side seam. Should I (A): take 2” each from the back darts; (B): Take 1.33” from the darts + the zipperless seam; (C): Add two 1” tucks/darts in the front panel and take 1” from each of the back darts? Help 🥲

    • @SlewLiving
      @SlewLiving Місяць тому

      Yeah that's a pain! I think C is the best option. That way you will distribute evenly throughout the whole skirt, but it will require a touch more effort than option A. Option A could also work but it will mean the back is significantly smaller than the front and could look funny... So I definitely think go with C. Good luck!
